Notice issued by TRA-Oman on the Measures taken by the Sultanate of Oman to Guarantee the Provision of Telecommunication Services, Limit the Spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic and mitigate its Effects

In line with the efforts taken by the Sultanate to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), the following important measures were taken to ensure the continuity of the telecom services and avoid network congestion due to increased demand:

  • a. To coordinate with the licensees to ensure the business continuity for the provision of telecommunications services and maintain its quality during the current circumstances and apply succession planning if required.
  • b. To provide free distance learning facility in cooperation with the Ministry of Education to all educational institutions with websites ending with (edu.om) in order to spare parents and students from any extra financial burdens.

As part of the collaborations between Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) and the Oman Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRA), Ericsson hosted a TRA delegation at its headquarters in Sweden to highlight global best practices and outline how 5G will foster new business and market opportunities in Oman.

Oman hosts the third regional workshop and the third meeting On internet policies

Within the efforts made to keep abreast of the digital transformation and laying a solid base towards the creation of a sound legal and regulatory environment, the Sultanate of Oman, represented in the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), and in collaboration with the Internet Society (ISOC) hosted the third regional workshop and the third meeting on internet policies from 6 to 7 November 2019 in Muscat. This event is complementary to the previous workshops and meeting held between governments and all the relevant stakeholders to discuss issues of mutual interest relating to the internet.

IPv6 latest News

  • meeting with Asyad ( 27/6/2019):

  • Yahya AL Hajri presented a presentation that covered the national initiative and our efforts of raising awareness. He started with covering the initiative history as well as where Oman stands about its IPv6 implementation rank. Roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders were also discussed. We also shared all required documents with them.

  • Meeting with NBO (8/8/2-019):

  • The bank, as stated by them, has tested the migration on some of their applications. They also said that they are facing some dependency issues with their international stakeholders. Systems connected to these dependencies are hard to be migrated unless international stakeholders cooperate towards accomplishing this milestone. We have also shared with them all required documents that might help them in their migration plan.

  • Meeting with Secure LLC (22/8/2019):

  • We had a meeting with Secure LLC and the meeting was about enquires in the company about the national plan to move towards IPv6, indicating the dates the TRA specific to move to IPv6.

  • Meeting with the Ministry of Health (19/9/2019) :

  • The Ipv6 national plan and its objective was presented to the ministry during the meeting. After which, there many question raised by the ministry and we have answered those questions and at the end we agreed that the ministry will submit their migration plan of IPv6 to the TRA as soon as possible and they will also inform other health sector in Oman to submit their plan.

Huawei launches a recruitment program in collaboration with TRA

Huawei Tech. Investment (Oman), in collaboration with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), launched a recruitment program for the year 2019 targeting a number of fresh graduates and undergraduates of various universities and colleges in Oman. Representatives have attended the ceremony from Government and Academic Entities in the Sultanate.

Announcement : Launching the new advanced feature Frequency Management Automated System

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) would like to draw the attention of all licensees that the Frequency Management Unit is in the process of launching the new advanced Frequency Management Automated System with its new improvements. The deadline to receive applications of radio licensing requests through the current portal for radio license services will be 20 June 2019 and the existing system will be disabled on the same day after the official working hours of TRA.

Applications requests through the new system shall be resumed starting from Thursday 27 June 2019.

Omantel and OBC signed contracts with the first batch of SMEs under LMC Project

On the initiative of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) to support the Omani small and medium enterprises (SMEs) , and create job opportunities for young Omanis in the telecom sector, Omantel and Oman Broadband Company (OBC) have signed contracts with 8 Omani SMEs specializing in Last-Mile Connectivity (LMC) works. The signing ceremony was attended by His Excellency the TRA Executive President, and senior officials of telecom companies at TRA headquarters at Airport Heights .

Press Release issued by TRA in cooperation with Huawei

Under the patronage of H.E Dr. Hamad bin Salim Al-Rawahi, the Executive President of TRA Oman, Huawei Technical Investments Oman signed two employment contracts with two Omani students specialized in telecommunication and computer engineering after successfully passing the in-house training program for 2019 which has targeted a number of new graduates and students of various universities and colleges in Oman.
