Memorandum of Understanding signed between Oman’s (TRA) and (TRC) of Jordan in the field of Regulating the Telecommunications and Post Sector



The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the Sultanate of Oman (TRA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Jordan (TRC). The MoU was signed by H.E Dr. Hamed bin Salim Al Rawahy, the TRA Chief Executive, on behalf of the Omani side, whereas H.E Dr. Eng. Ghazi Al-Jobor, the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners and CEO of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission signed on behalf of the Jordanian side.

• Avoid counterfeit phones as they perform with a lower efficiency and pose health risks

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) launched a campaign to educate consumers on the health risks associated with using counterfeit phones. The campaign also aims at protecting consumers from the potential risks faced in using fake devices due to their poor quality and low efficiency and which also undermine the communications networks in the Sultanate.

Globally, there has been a significant increase in the use of counterfeit phones and this poses a challenge to telecom operators around the world. Counterfeit phones pose a risk as they have not been tested and as such do not meet the international safety standards applied by the legitimate phone manufacturer.

The Office of Electronic Communications of the Republic of Poland visits TRA Oman.



Within the context of the bilateral cooperation between the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), Oman, and the Office of Electronic Communications of the Republic of Poland, H.E Dr. Hamad Bin Salem Al-Rawahi, the Executive President of TRA welcomed on Monday April 4, 2016 H.E. Magdalena GAJ President of the Office of Electronic Communications at TRA Head Office.

The official visit comes in continuation of the extant cooperation between the two organizations in executing the MoU signed by both parties in 2013 with view to exchange expertise, strengthen cooperation in areas of telecommunications and posts in the two friendly countries, including boosting cooperation in SME projects and sharing of viewpoints in facilitating future investment opportunities in the telecom sectors in both countries.

Reduction in Mobile Roaming Prices for GCC countries starting from 1st April 2016:



The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has announced that Omani citizens and residents roaming in the GCC countries will now enjoy reduced roaming prices for, SMS, and mobile data in addition to further reductions in voice calls prices. The new price caps are effective starting from the 1st of April 2016.

This reduction comes under the initiative of cooperation between the GCC regulators under the umbrella of the GCC General Secretariat to regulate the prices of roaming services within the Gulf countries, towards facilitating the availability of roaming services within reasonable and affordable price levels, in view of the expected positive impact on enhancing social ties and economic integration between the GCC counties.

TRA signs an agreement with Oman Centre for Corporate Governance and Sustainability

Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has signed a cooperation agreement with the Oman Centre for Corporate Governance and Sustainability (OCCGS) at TRA's premises at Airport Heights. The agreement was signed by the TRA Executive President HE Dr. Hamed bin Salim al Rawahi, and the OCCGS Board Chairman HE Abdullah Salim Al Salmi.

TRA hosts Telecom Laws & Regulations Forum

Under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, the TRA with the support of the telecommunications industry institutions and private enterprises will host a three-day Telecom Laws & Regulations at Grand Hyatt, Muscat. A group of experts and representatives of the telecommunication industry will participate in the Forum.

ITU ICT Development Index (IDI) for 2015

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has launched on the 30th of November 2015 the new 2015 edition of the “Measuring the Information Society Report”. According to the ITU, This Report is being published annually since 2009, and it features key ICT data and benchmarking tools to measure the information society, including the ICT Development Index (IDI). The IDI 2015 captures the level of ICT developments in 167 economies worldwide and compares progress made since the year 2010. It also assesses IDI findings at the regional level and highlights countries that rank at the top of the IDI and those that have improved their position in the overall IDI rankings most dynamically since 2010.
