TRA signs Memorandum of Cooperation with Competition Protection and Monopoly Prevention Center
The
Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) signed yesterday a Memorandum of
Cooperation with the Competition Protection and Monopoly Prevention
Center (CMC) to boost joint cooperation between them and to exchange data and
resources in the telecommunications sector. The Memo was signed on behalf of
TRA by HE Dr. Hamed bin Salim AL-Rawahy, TRA Executive President and from CMC
side by Dr. Ghafir bin Awadh Al-Shanfari, CEO in charge of CMC with the
presence of a number of officials from both sides.
The signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation comes within the efforts of TRA and
CMC to coordinate their targets in relation to the articles stipulated in the
Telecommunications Regulatory Act and the Competition Protection and Monopoly
Prevention Law and their amendments for the public
interest, and within the endeavors of both parties to establish a business
frame work to strengthen their partnership and continued cooperation. This
includes conducting joint research and studies, economic concentration requests
and reviewing the regulatory laws and regulations.
The agreement involves
the exploration of key areas of cooperation and ways to benefit from the
capabilities and expertise of both parties, conducting training programs to
develop techniques of control and regulation as well as cooperating in
organizing training courses and joint events.
It is
noteworthy that the execution of this Memorandum will be under the supervision
of an executive committee to be formulated from both parties to act as a focal
point to address the gaps and resolve the relevant issues.
